Janita, the Finnish-born multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter, is back with her latest single, “Real Deal,” a striking preview of her forthcoming album, Mad Equation (out May 2025 via ECR Music Group). The single continues Janita’s tradition of pushing boundaries with her genre-defying artistry.

Co-produced by Blake Morgan (Lenny Kravitz, Lesley Gore), Mad Equation promises to further cement Janita’s reputation as a force in modern music. A former teen star in her native Finland, Janita first captured the world’s attention with two Top-40 U.S. Billboard hits and a string of independent successes that have earned her fans on four continents.

“Real Deal” draws inspiration from cinematic classics The 400 Blows and Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. “I identify with the rebellious nature of the characters in those movies,” Janita explains. “Being an artist in this world is a mad pursuit, yet it’s the work I’ve schooled myself in, and done, all my life. So I find myself living, symbolically, in a permanent shootout like Butch and Sundance and I’m alright with it. More than just ‘alright’ with it—it’s the life I’ve chosen.”

Much like contemporaries PJ Harvey and St. Vincent, Janita thrives on unpredictability. “I think it’s fair to say that over the course of my career, people have been trying to figure me out,” she says. “Well, with this new record, problem solved.”

“Real Deal” is now available on all major platforms.
