Hotly tipped viral star Genia has returned with her latest offering, “Damage”.
Initially teasing the track with viral snippets which generated over a million views on TikTok, “Damage” revolves around a thick throwback beat and a chantable chorus: “Bad girls wanna have fun,” Genia proclaims.
“Damage” follows on from a string of releases from the buzz-worthy new name who makes music that, like her, can’t be put into a box. Taking a raw approach to music making which comes from a lifetime of using music as therapy, Genia explains that she makes music “mainly for women to feel badass. That was kind of my thing: to make bad bitch music, but also vulnerable music, almost like somebody’s reading my diary.”
Initially working at Walmart and studying to be a nurse when COVID hit. Genia quit and turned to music amongst the stress. Genia struck TikTok gold in November 2020 with her version of Deborah Cox’s “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here,” and eventually landed a deal with the iconic Def Jam Records.
As Genia continues refining her vocals, writing and dancing, “Damage” is another taste of why she has captured audiences across the globe.
