Liverpool’s Mersey Wylie makes her triumphant return with “Woman,” her first release since 2018’s critically acclaimed EP, The Skin I Live In. “Woman” marks a stunning evolution of Wylie’s signature sound, blending neo-soul, jazz, and alternative pop into a bold and deeply moving anthem.

At its core, “Woman” is a fearless commentary on violence against women, societal pressures, and feminine strength. It’s a rallying cry for change and a celebration of resilience. “I wrote Woman a few years ago in response to some brutal violence against women, and the minimisation of this in the media,” explains Wylie. “It then bloomed into a song about conforming to societal pressures, being measured by superficial standards, a fury at the way sexual assault victims are treated by the media and the courts, and ultimately taking back that power.”

The song is accompanied by a visually arresting music video directed by Marieke Macklon (Emeli Sandé, Clean Cut Kid, Pixey), who brings Wylie’s powerful message to life. Featuring a host of formidable Liverpool artists, the video highlights the strength and solidarity of women within the creative community.

“I knew I wanted to really centre the lyrics of the song with the visuals and feature some amazing women,” says Wylie of the collaboration. “Marieke had an amazing vision and really brought the whole thing to life. It was so special to work with my closest friends, all incredible women and artists who constantly inspire, uplift, and support me. It made the whole experience unforgettable.”

Woman is the title track from Wylie’s upcoming EP, slated for release in early 2025. The EP builds on the feminist themes of the single, weaving together rage, vulnerability, joy, and empowerment in a way that only Wylie can.

“This whole EP is equally empowering and deeply vulnerable,” Wylie shares. “There is rage, joy, introspection, hope, and power. I started with the single ‘Woman‘ and knew that it was something really special. The EP then grew out of that into the songs that I wanted to hear when I was younger, and now.”

To celebrate the release, Wylie will headline an intimate single launch at Yamama on November 21. The event, in partnership with The Narrative, promises a stripped-back performance offering fans a chance to experience the raw emotion of “Woman” up close.

Mersey Wylie’s return is a testament to her artistry, fearlessness, and dedication to crafting music that resonates. As Woman continues to make waves, one thing is certain: Wylie is back, and she has something powerful to say.
