South Korean singer-songwriter-producer Yves, known for her distinct sound and introspective lyricism, returns with her highly anticipated new EP I DID. The release marks a new solo chapter for the LOONA member, who has spent the past year reclaiming her artistic freedom and crafting music that reflects her personal journey.
I DID follows Yves’ critically acclaimed spring EP LOOP, which saw success on the iTunes Top Album charts in 10 countries and was named No. 18 on Billboard’s Best K-pop Albums of 2024 So Far. Her new EP, a natural extension of her previous work, delves deeper into themes of peace, self-discovery, and personal growth. The five-track project includes the hyper-pop anthem “Viola,” R&B-infused tracks like “Hashtag” and “Tik Tok,” as well as catchy pop cuts “Gone Girl” and “Dim.” Yves describes the EP as a musical exploration of the range of emotions she encountered while searching for tranquility.
The centerpiece of the project is the mesmerizing single “Viola,” which Yves describes as a reflection of her pursuit of inner peace. She explains that the song captures the emotions she encountered in her journey to find serenity. The “space” in the track symbolizes a deep need for peace within, and although the lyrics mention a “stage,” the song is about more than just a performance. Yves hopes that when fans listen, they’ll experience a moment of calm and comfort, feeling a sense of ease as if they’ve found a peaceful space within themselves.
She highlights how “Viola” begins with a sense of confusion, with lyrics that talk about needing a place to hide, but concludes with an outro that evokes a sense of space and calm. Listening to the tracks in order, she says, gives listeners a journey through the emotions she experienced in her search for peace.
The EP is an invitation to experience Yves’ true artistic voice, as she embraces the freedom to tell her own story. After LOONA, Yves reflects on the challenges she faced during her year-long hiatus. She recalls how difficult it was to suddenly be unable to do anything, but now, she has emerged stronger, more self-assured, and eager to share her music with the world. Yves believes that to truly enjoy music, she has to show her true self, which is why she is dedicated to creating music that brings her joy.
To celebrate the release of I DID, Yves will embark on her first solo European tour, Apple Cinnamon Crunch, starting in Berlin on December 4. The tour will include stops in Warsaw, London, Paris, and Rome.
With I DID, Yves is making a major statement and is finally doing exactly what she set out to do: share the music she’s always wanted to create.
