As autumn sweeps in with its gentle winds and vibrant colors, beloved singer-songwriter Heize offers a soundtrack to the season with her new EP, FALLIN’ – her ninth album, delivering a heartfelt exploration of longing, memory, and letting go.
FALLIN’ brings together seven tracks that each embody Heize’s intimate reflections on past love, nostalgia, and the process of moving forward. The title track, written with rapper and artist B.I., sets the tone as a sentimental ballad, where a delicate acoustic guitar underpins Heize’s signature, emotive vocals. She uses the song as a canvas to paint the bittersweet beauty of fleeting moments, hoping it will resonate with listeners’ own memories of youthful, innocent love.
In a recent interview with The Korea Times, Heize shared that FALLIN’ reflects her personal experiences, crafted during a time of ups and downs that ultimately inspired her. “I’m so grateful that those difficulties passed and the music can come out into the world like this,” she said. “And since I love autumn so much, I’m most grateful that I can share new music with you during my favorite season.”
The EP includes six self-penned tracks, showcasing Heize’s distinctive writing style. These songs—“It Was All You,” “Broken Diary,” “Behind the Heart,” “Dot,” “Without You,” and “November Song”—delve into universal themes of longing and loss, capturing both the beauty and melancholy of change. While the album subtly touches on her family memories, Heize wanted her lyrics to be broad enough for listeners to see their own reflections within.
“My mother has been unwell for several years,” she explained, noting how her family’s health struggles influenced the creative process. “The nostalgic times within me are the image of my parents when they were healthy and how our family was in my childhood.” Through FALLIN’, Heize hopes listeners can explore their own feelings of nostalgia and connect with the music in a personal way.
This album also marks a shift in her songwriting. “In the past, I’d write about one person or one moment. But this time, even within one song, I found myself recalling multiple people and relationships from different stages of my life.” This introspective approach allowed her to build a collection of songs that feel universal yet deeply personal.
The FALLIN’ music video, released alongside the album, visually echoes the themes of the title track. Heize appears adrift, symbolizing the struggle of holding onto memories while simultaneously feeling trapped by them. In the MV, her dreamy scenes complement the music’s warm tones and contemplative lyrics.
Track after track, Heize’s autumnal gift to fans invites them to pause, reflect, and find comfort in shared experiences of love and loss. With FALLIN’, she captures the spirit of the season—a time of letting go and preparing for renewal.
