Oslo-based artist, songwriter, and producer MaVe is known for her dramatic soundscapes, blending elegant ballads with raw, heavy compositions. Today, the multifaceted musician drops her latest single “Tolerate,” a track that offers a sensitive and vulnerable side of her artistry.
Following her powerful return earlier this year with “Extraordinary” and the rave-tinged “Weak,” “Tolerate” strips things back to a minimalist piano-and-synth arrangement. The song captures MaVe’s unflinching honesty, as she reflects on finding strength in impossible circumstances. “Tolerate was written by the adult me, but with the young me as a child as emotional inspiration,” she explains. “It’s about finding strength in an impossible situation. When there’s no other choice than to endure and get through it.”
The track’s emotional core is underscored by MaVe’s distinctive vocal, delivering raw emotion while evoking the grandeur of 80s and 90s power ballads, with a touch of Norwegian alt-pop icons like Highasakite and Aurora.
MaVe’s journey began in the small village of Ringebu, Norway, and her sound is shaped by her refusal to conform to genre constraints. “I don’t like the limitations and boundaries of having to make every new song fit into a small box,” she says. “I wake up with different emotions and mindsets every day, so when I sit down in my studio that’s the baseline of what I make.”
Her 2023 debut album, Crap I shouldn’t say out loud and shitloads of ballads, earned her critical acclaim and growing attention in Norway, landing placements on editorial playlists, radio rotations, and TV series like Jævla Homo and Lovleg.
With “Tolerate,” MaVe proves once again that she’s an artist with boundless depth, creating music that speaks to both the heart and the soul. Listen to the new song here.
