On a cold November’s evening in wintery London, thousands flocked to Brixton to catch girl group Dreamcatcher’s post-pandemic [Apocalypse : Follow us] world tour – marking the group’s first visit to the UK since 2019.
Headlining London’s O2 Brixton Academy on November 22nd as part of a five-date tour, Dreamcatcher’s [Apocalypse : Follow us] 2022 World Tour was billed as “an epic meeting with their fans in five cities” by tour promoters MyMusicTaste, and the seven-piece group definitely did not disappoint.
As one would expect from a group as seasoned as Dreamcatcher, the girls didn’t miss a step or note across a spectacular setlist brimming with hits and fan-favorites. Theatrically emerging to the mystical club beats of “Intro:Chaotical X” (from their 2022 mini album Apocalypse : Follow Us) as a sea of lightsticks took to the air, Dreamcatcher got into place for “VISION” – performing the metal-pop track to a backdrop of gritty lyric visuals and chaotic stage lights.
Showcasing why they’ve risen to the top of the ranks of Korean girl groups with stellar performances of signature tracks like “BEcause”, “Red Sun”, “Odd Eye”, “MAISON”, “Scream” and “BOCA”, plus b-sides including “Starlight”, “Wind Blows”, “Fairytale”, “Jazz Bar”, “Rainy Day and “Locked Inside a Door”, the impressive setlist highlighted Dreamcatcher’s genre-spanning discography; traversing between gothic dance, rock, pop, R&B and ballads, Dreamcatcher are arguably one of Korea’s most diverse groups when it comes to incorporating musical styles – if not the most diverse.
Other memorable moments included Dreamcatcher momentarily transforming the venue into a sweaty nightclub with the EDM drops of “Silent Night” as the room filled with bouncing, rainbow colored lightsticks; the provocative choreography to the dark club-pop of “Poison Love”; as well as a solo medley which showed off Dreamcatcher’s individual charms and bond as a group, playfully having to reveal to the audience which girl was due to perform her solo track next.
In a much appreciated move, Dreamcatcher let the crowd know early on that they could raise their arms into an ‘X’ shape to signal themselves to venue staff, should any member of the audience be feeling uncomfortable or in trouble. It was an incredibly thoughtful gesture, one which proved the group (and MyMusicTaste) are taking active measures to help audiences feel safer and less anxious during concerts, while also turning this into a fun moment of interaction with the talent on stage.
