‘Rainbow’: 14 Empowering, Inspiring Lyrics from Kesha’s Triumphant Comeback Album

Most Kesha fans will tell you that they saw a country and Western flavored album coming from her at some stage. Despite her dance-pop roots, country is the sound that’s closest to Kesha’s heart, so it makes sense that Kesha’s most intimate album takes on that genre to better reflect the darkly personal lyrical content – Rainbow is the album that “quite literally” saved Kesha’s life.

I can’t really find the words (or at least, any more words after my Noisey article) to talk about Rainbow in a way that does it justice. There’s so much beauty and authenticity in Rainbow which I think Kesha‘s lyrics do a better job of reflecting than any critic could do. With that said, I opted to showcase my favorite lyric from each song on Rainbow which, I believe, collectively embody the spirit of Rainbow – that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how much shit life throws at you (and in Kesha’s case, a mountain of shit). It’s okay to love, and it’s okay to be as unapologetically yourself as humanly possible. You can overcome everything and anything you’ve been through, and sound like a boss ass chick while doing so.

Rainbow is Kesha’s artistic peak and the rawest album you’re gonna hear in 2017, and I think these lyrics verify those facts.

I got too many people I got left to prove wrong.

“Bastards”

Don’t let those losers take your magic, baby.

“Let ‘Em Talk”

Girls in the front, boys in the back.

“Woman”

I know that I’m perfect, even though I’m fucked up.

“Hymn”

The best is yet to come.

“Praying”

The past can’t haunt me if I don’t let it.

“Learn to Let Go”

Let’s run away, baby, drive straight into the moonlight.

“Finding You”

Darling, our scars make us who we are.

“Rainbow”

Baby, I love you so much – don’t make me kill you.

“Hunt You Down”

The body needs a good shakin’ to let the brain fill up with the good vibrations.

“Boogie Feet”

If you can’t handle these claws, you don’t get this kitty.

“Boots”

I caught a spark in his eyes of forgotten desire.

Old Flames (Can’t Hold a Candle to You)”

What do you get when you meet Godzilla and fall in love?

“Godzilla”

Nothing is real, love is everything, and I know nothing.

“Spaceship”
