Pray For Your Faves – Dawn Richard Unveils Redemption!

The one and only Dawn Richard has finally unveiled the details of her insanely anticipated album Redemption and so far, it is mind-blowing!

Via Instagram, Miss Dawn explained that the album will:

…speak on self discovery. What it means to be black. To be a woman. To speak on gay rights. To speak on black crimes. To talk about sexual discovery. And to find redemption in having a voice to do so.

Sounds like this could be her Rhythm Nation era. Dawn also revealed that she “spent more time on this album than any other era” so that it would be “special”. Yeah girl, you’re telling us! The Hearts (Dawn’s fan-base) have been salivating for Redemption since Dawn’s critically acclaimed 2015 masterpiece Blackheart.

Dawn also treated us to the album’s artwork. It’s her sleekest album cover to date, with the minimal design bringing full focus to Dawn’s glaringly eccentric xylophone headdress, intimate gaze and powerful presence:dawnrichardredemptionheart

That cover is the pure embodiment of Dawn’s comments regarding the album’s message. Her pose just screams, “I’m here. Look at me. Listen to me. You won’t regret it. But if you do, I don’t care. Because I am me”. Also, if that outlandish outfit isn’t the truest representation of Dawn and her music, then I don’t know what is.

What is noticeable about the Redemption track list is the omitting of every phenomenal single Dawn dropped on her journey from Blackheart to Redemption. “Dance”, “Wake Up”, and even the extremely modest hit “Not Above That” are nowhere to be seen. But in doing so, Dawn has made way for a body of work freshly made up of entirely new material.

Dawn Richard – Redemption track list:

  1. Redemption (Intro)
  2. Love Under Lights
  3. Black Crimes
  4. Voices
  5. LA (feat. Trombone Shorty)
